WHAT IS 13 KUBIKOV (13m3)

13 kubikov is a non-for-profit civic association based in Bratislava, Slovakia, founded in 2005 by a group of young "cultural operators", Maria Riskova, Maria Corejova and Michal Cudrnak. Marian Lukacka replaced Michal Cudrnak one year later. Its members continue in the activities of two previously existing associations focused on contemporary culture and new media (Buryzone and Burundi) in the years 2001-2005.

The administrative structure follows the usual mode of non-for-profit organisations: chairman and members are responsible for conceptual and organisational tasks. The association collaborates with guest professionals who are invited to participate and develop various activities. Volunteers play important role in the association activities. The aim of the 13 kubikov is to develop and support activities and research related to the application and influence of new media and technologies in the cultural and social sphere; as well as modern social sciences. The association wants to present the practical results of the theoretical research of both the expert and general public, promote and share the knowledge acquired in the research. The association takes an interest in an interdisciplinary approach and networking between art, science and technologies.

Goals of the association are:
- support the periodic and occasional publishing activities of an innovative nature
- organising the exhibitions, educative events, lectures, workshops, seminars, conferences and other events
- creative and independent research and art production
- provide information and public education about new media and contemporary culture
- build a library and mediatheque with the materials of various forms, databases of Slovak and International culture
- application of modern technologies in distribution of information and research of the new approaches to information processing
- build the international contacts
- cooperation with other cultural and education institutions
